Catalan FC Barcelona has written its name in the history of Spanish football again. After defeating Real Sociedad 2-1 in the 7th round of La Liga, Hans-Dieter Flick's team scored in the 44th consecutive match in all competitions. Thus, the blue-garnet team repeated the club record set back in the 1940s, and approached the opportunity to set a completely new achievement.
The last time such a series was recorded was during the era of Juan Jose Nogues, from November 1942 to February 1944. Barcelona managed to score in 44 consecutive games at the time, but that time was completely different: football was still recovering from the effects of World War II, and the Spanish championship was in its infancy.
Modern Barca, on the contrary, plays in conditions of huge competition — not only in La Liga, where every week you have to face serious rivals, but also in the Champions League, where mistakes are instantly punished. Therefore, the current series looks even more impressive than the historical one.
The countdown for the current record period started on December 21, 2024. Then Barcelona lost at home to Atletico Madrid (1:2) in the 18th round of La Liga. Curiously, it was in that meeting that the Catalans broke the goalless streak — the round before that they unexpectedly failed to score against Leganes (0:1).
Nine months have passed since then and 44 games have passed in which Barca have consistently found their way to the opponent's goal. During this period, the team managed to distinguish itself in the championship, the Spanish Cup, as well as in European Cup matches.
Ferran Torres scored the record goal, which made it possible to repeat the achievement of 80 years ago, from Marcus Rashford's pass. It is symbolic that the decisive goal was scored by a player who was criticized for instability last season. Now he is becoming an important part of Flick's attacking system, and his connection with Rashford is gradually gaining strength.
The match against Real Sociedad was significant: young talents such as Lamin Yamal and Pedro Fernandez are actively building into the base, and experienced players take responsibility at key moments. This combination makes Barcelona a team with great potential.
To date, Barcelona is confidently leading the Spanish league, having scored 19 points after seven rounds. The main competitors, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, are still in the role of catching up, although the calendar is only gaining momentum.
On October 5, the Catalans will have an away match against Sevilla. It is there that the team can surpass the historical record and score in the 45th game in a row, which will become a new milestone in the annals of the club. The fans are looking forward to this event with special impatience, because it will be proof that Barcelona is experiencing a new era of stability and effectiveness.
Football analysts point out that the current series is not just about statistics. This is an indicator of the style, philosophy and belief in attacking football, which is returning to the Camp Nou again. For young players like Gavi, Fernandez and Yamal, participating in such a series is part of their growing up, and for veterans it is a chance to make history with a new generation.
If Barcelona continues in the same spirit, the club will not only be able to set a new record, but also really compete for all the trophies of the season.
